Delaware Tech Honors Logan Herring during Black History Month CelebrationOn Tuesday, February 20, 2024, Delaware Technical Community College honored Mr. Logan Herring Sr., at the College’s Black History Month Celebration. Herring is the CEO of The WRK Group, including The Warehouse, REACH Riverside, and Kingswood Community Center.

Delaware Tech Named Leader College of DistinctionDelaware Technical Community College is one of six institutions nationwide to be designated a 2024 Leader College of Distinction by Achieving the Dream (ATD) in recognition of the College’s work to promote and sustain its student success efforts. ATD, a national, reform-focused nonprofit dedicated to advancing community colleges as hubs of economic and social mobility in their communities, previously named Delaware Tech a Leader College in 2022.

More Than 400 Participate in Terry Campus Chocolate 5k Run/WalkThe 12th annual Chocolate 5k Run/Walk, held February 10, 2024, on the College’s Terry Campus in Dover, drew more than 400 registrants. It marked the second consecutive year since returning to an in-person event that more than 400 individuals participated and helped raise funds to support the Terry Campus Emergency Fund for Students.

First-year Aviation Student Represents Delaware Tech at DelDOT’s Aviation SummitThe Delaware Department of Transportation held its 2024 Delaware Aviation Summit at Delaware Technical Community College’s Del-One Conference Center in Dover, bringing together local aviators, including college and high school students enrolled in their school aviation programs.

Paramedic Program Holds Coin CeremonyThe Delaware Tech paramedic program held a coin ceremony on Jan. 25, 2024, to celebrate and acknowledge students from Paramedic Classes 28 and 29. The coin ceremony is the culmination of the students’ educational journey at the College, which encompasses 2,000 hours of education and training in both the classroom and simulation lab, clinical rotations, and a field internship. Each student also passed the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians paramedic exam.

Culinary Arts Program Launches Thanksgiving ProjectIn response to some self-reflection, Chef Joe Sakers made the decision to use his experience and talents in the kitchen to create and support a food-focused community service event. The result was the creation of the Thanksgiving Project, which resulted in nearly 30 local families receiving fully prepared Thanksgiving meals that were delivered the morning of the holiday.

Delaware Tech Receives $200,000 Neighborhood Builders® Award from Bank of AmericaDelaware Technical Community College is one of two state winners of Bank of America’s 2023 Neighborhood Builders® award, which includes grant funding of $200,000 over two years, as well as workforce development leadership training.

Delaware Tech Earns Six Awards from National Council for Marketing and Public RelationsDelaware Technical Community College earned six 2023 Medallion Awards from the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations (NCMPR), which recognizes outstanding achievement in design and communication at community and technical colleges in each of NCMPR's seven districts. The regional competition is exclusive to marketing and public relations professionals at two-year colleges. Winners were announced in November.

Two College Employees Honored with DAWN AwardsDelaware Tech employees Cornelia Johnson and Christine Wilborne were recognized by the Delaware ACE Women's Network (DAWN) during DAWN’s Oct. 26, 2023, awards ceremony. Johnson, college vice president and Terry Campus director, received the 2023 DAWN Leadership Award and Wilborne, an academic counselor on the College’s Stanton Campus, was named a DAWN Rising Star Award honoree.

Delaware Tech Cross Country Runners Claim Region TitlesDelaware Technical Community College’s men’s cross country team claimed the 2023 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 19 Division II Men’s Championship at the 2023 NJCAA Region 19 Championship Meet on Oct. 28 in Lancaster, Pa, and freshmen Brayden Fosty and Hannah Lensico won the individual men’s and women’s titles as well.

Three Students Receive Scholarships from atTAcK addictionDelaware Tech students Amanda Chen, Justin McNatt, and Jenn Tribbett, were each awarded a $1,000 scholarship from atTAcK addiction during the organization’s gala on October 19, 2023. The trio was selected based upon 500-word essays they submitted that explained how they have had an impact or will impact the fight against substance use disorder within their community or school.

Students Experience Real-World Media Production During Coast TV Studios VisitStudents in the communications program at Delaware Technical Community College recently received a behind-the-scenes tour of Coast TV (WRDE) studios in Milton. Journalist Britt Leoni and Meteorologist Jeanette Gallardo led the tour, which allowed students to watch media production in action and gain insights into the industry.

Ron & Beth Baron Named Honorary Chairs of Terry Campus Gourmet GalaRon and Beth Baron have been named honorary chairs of the Delaware Tech Terry Campus Gourmet Gala taking place Saturday, October 21, 2023, from 6-10 p.m. in the on-campus Del-One Conference Center. Ron is president & CEO of Del-One Federal Credit Union and Beth has been a social worker for nearly three decades.

Delaware Tech’s Annual Hometown Heroes 5K Raises Funds for Student ScholarshipsMore than 300 runners and walkers joined Delaware Technical Community College employees, students, and volunteers on Sept. 20 for the annual Hometown Heroes 5k Run/1 Mile Walk hosted by the College’s Stanton and Wilmington campuses. This year’s race raised over $11,000 for student scholarships.
